The most important duties of police around the world include the protection of persons and property, the maintenance of security, and the enforcement of the law. In addition, police officers participate in emergency situations such as floods and rescues. They help with traffic management, encouraging and upholding public order, collecting intelligent intelligence on public problems, and engaging in the preparation of potential officers, motivating, and preserving the safety of police staff. Police officers also register and prosecute numerous offenses alleged to them by complainants; they also maintain notes and defend government offices. The use of the law has promoted the effectiveness of police service in various ways. The laws govern the conducts of law enforcement officers as they perform their duties and aid in improving the welfare of the police service as well as the public relationship with the citizens. For example, the police are required to fulfill the duty imposed on them. Secondly, the law requires police officers not be involved in corruption or discrimination; they should respect and uphold human dignity. On the other hand, some of these laws prevent the police from performing their activities efficiently. For example, rules allow suspects appear before the court to have their detention reviewed or prevent police from using force during the arrest of armed criminals what results in losing lives.
Events Leading to Community Policy
The police should consider public views in their operation and collaboration with the local people to help in solving local crime. Some events usually result in community policy era, including the preservation of peace and crime prevention. City policy will help the public to monitor and police activities as well as reporting criminals. In communication policing, the police officers should cooperate with a local community, respect its tradition, and be agents of consensus at all times. The interaction between the police and the community enhances the provision of security.
Finally, in community building policing, the police should build a personal relationship with the community since it is flexible. Police officers should also build the community as it will help in giving shape to the police obligation. The appropriate role of the police in the community contributes to strengthening its institutions becoming able to hand their problems.
Problem of Police Fragmentation
The problem is devolving the police structure into local levels to avoid concentration of the police management on the national basis. The reasons for fragmentation result from beliefs that any local problem can be handled by the police at local level. The second reason for the fragmentation in the US is the fear of the citizens of being controlled by the federal police.
Policing fragmentation is inefficient as it reduces the operation of the police officers. The main challenge associated with fragmentation is making it difficult for the formation of laws to fight crime at both regional and local level. The fragmentation lacks uniformity in recruitment standards, has a wasteful repetition of work, is awkward in sharing crime information between the agencies, and is hard to manage police activities across the states.
