Discussions on proposals and change of policy for college free education have been ongoing both at the governmental and institution level. There are various factors as to why many parties are involved in this debate, which is because many students find it hard to pay for their tuition fees. We have experienced several significant political figures being involved in the need to move for free college education, which emphasizes the impact and the change it will make in our country. College free education will not only generate an effect on the college students but will also bring a positive impact on the broader community. A free college education will come up with positive results such as ensuring students from low-income families have access to college education, improving the nations’ economic growth and make college education free for all; however, through the achievement of free college education, there is a possibility of misuse of public resources.
Free college education will come as a way of ensuring that students from low-income families get access to the knowledge they have always dreamed of. Many students end up not being able to complete their degree programs due to the economic hardships their families have (Johnston par 9). By regarding that, it can easily be justified that there are students who are highly qualified for such programs but are unable to access them due to poverty. From this basis, a picture can be drawn of how the many numbers of students who miss a chance of learning in more prominent institutions due to failure of affordance of the fees. However, through the initiative of free college education, this kind of students will have the privilege to learn more and make their goals come true. The free college education policy will not only ensure these students further their studies but will also motivate them to feel the urge to learn more and discover the many potentials they have in the academic fields they will be participants of.
Through the free college education, the country’s economic growth will be improved. By coming up with free higher learning, more students will find their way to the college institutions, which will ensure they get better-paying jobs upon their graduation (Goldrick-Rab and Kelly par 22). The students from the colleges will no longer have to rely on low-income jobs but will have the expertise of being employed in larger companies. Their families will eventually enjoy a better living standard, which generally links to the improved economy. The students from the free college education program should, however, ensure they get the skills required in the companies for them to make the economy of the country grow at another level. The students will have the guarantee of ensuring they complete their college programs hence getting the necessary skills required in the companies. Therefore, a free college education will come as a way of improving the country’s economic growth since more experts will be available to perform different duties in the industries.
Another essential impact the free college education will generate is the way people will view a college education as being open for everyone. Making this type of schooling free will make the community feel part of it since it is free, and anyone qualified can join (Larson par 7). The free college education does not look at the race or economic standard of the eligible individuals but takes all. People from different cultures and backgrounds will, therefore, have the opportunity of accessing this education freely. Making college education free also ensures that students’ needs are looked upon and shows how the colleges are student-centered. Students with tuition debts will also be freed from that calamity since they will have access to free education. The free education consequently brings the entire public into one principal concern of, ensuring that everybody qualified gains access to education.
Although a free college education is a big move for a nation, it leads to the misuse of public resources. Removal of tuition fees in the colleges will lead to inefficiency in the education sector (Northeast State Community College par 4). There is a possibility that it will affect the learning system through the many students being involved. The program will also cost the government a lot at the expense of just the students from low income families. The sudden increase of students in the colleges will be a big blow for the colleges to handle and know-how to ensure all students get the skills required for their specific fields. The free college education initiative will, therefore, have the drawback of lower rates of graduating students with the skills necessary.
In conclusion, free college education is an initiative that should be implemented to ensure the country moves forward. The tuition-free program will provide students from needy families to have access to college education and also improve the economic growth of the country. The entire public will have the guarantee of accessing college education also emphasis how beneficial the program is. Although the program might have a drawback of misuse of public funds, its benefits should be considered since they outweigh the disadvantage. Therefore, free college education should be implemented across the country for the nation to see all the benefits it comes with.
