Due to the increase emphasize on the use of the evident-based practices and effiecient clinical operations there exists a need to integrate the scientific knowledge and business principles by emphasizing research-based approaches and program development. The mental health counselors must be trained to deal with comprehensive clinical program development. This is because of the dramatic change in the professional counseling sector over the past decades with the society evolving where counselors treat an increasing number of specialized clinical issues. Counseling interventions have been proposed for such complex issues as dealing with developmental transitions of young women with attention deficits that can be summarized by the research findings on a basis of etiological factors and specific counseling interventions for use in treatment.
The appropriate approaches concerning the needs assessment for the comprehensive program development involve; formulating a program rationale, thorough review of the research for elements of program design, accounting for multicultural considerations in the design, defining they organizational structure, Identifying community resources, drawing up the initial burget, identifying potential funding sources, engaging community resources, drafting professional advocacy plan, designing the program evaluation plan, identifying methods of data reporting and making plans to pursue accreditation.
The presented model helps the mental health counselors to provide practical framework in making an effective program development, counselors will be better prepared for clinical development programs and support the counselor’s profession’s efforts to compete effectively with other mental health professionals.
For effective implementation of the issues related to the unmet needs in the target population’s cultural identity, the needs assessment should be given an attention in ensuring that the program is continuously modified to support the dynamic nature of multiculturalism which is an inherent part of initial program design and primary factor in later program modification.
