Music of the classical era was once the newest and most popular music of generations in the past. This music can be regarded as being ancient due to the fact that they have been in existence for close to 300 years. Even so, back then these pieces were major attractions to the masses and served as hit songs. In our current status therefore, this music serves as a great historical perspective to identify and learn some of the greatest composers and related hit songs of the classical period. It is through the pieces of the time that we can be able to tell the important works, values, tastes and experiences of listeners during those classical days.
Learning classical music era reveals that the foundation for some of the most successful venues of entertainment was done then. Sell out shows and box office hits have a breath of life due to the foundations that were set during classical era. The effect of music incorporated in shows has forever revolutionized the industry. Symphonic music plays a huge role in heightening emotion in movies. All these are cultures that were born during the classical music era. Even in as much as there have been a lot of changes since then. The concept still remains the same. What basically changes is the adaptation in line with preference and popular culture. Different adaptations are born making things more enjoyable.
There has also been a lot of research focused on linking classical music to intelligence. If at all this is true, ways can be figured out of adapting the classical play into the music that we listen to now. This means that there is a lot to learn about the classical era. Not just limited to style and composition, but also the thought process of composers and their motives. These are what would be able to guide getting to know more about the music and figure out their applicability in the recent popular culture.
It is therefore without a doubt that classical music has a great relevance to music in the world of today. Its essence cannot be easily ignored. The music of this time continues to serve as historical record of how the situation was in the past. At a time when brains were developing not only in the entertainment sector, but also a lot of other issues in the society. With humans always being on a quest to getting entertained, looking back to the classical music era would always serve as an important guide to our playing not only now, but also for years to come. This is in consideration that music tends to shape the action of people and plays a major role in the forming identities (Shilling).
Among the major musical characteristics of the late classical music period was the aspect of simplification. The complexities that were in compositions in earlier times were being broken down. Melodies had started being easier to hum to at an individual level rather that the complexities of everything playing at once. Melody had started taking precedence in tunes.
There was also the aspect of innovation and constant changes in the instruments used in the period. An evolution of ideas was always on the offing. The piano got more use in addition to the expansion of the orchestra. The developments that were made on the orchestra are what we see currently. With evolution of ideas and innovation, the number of pieces of music increased tremendously. All the way from symphonies, solo pieces and operas experienced an increase as the need for entertainment increased. Pieces were not only focused on order but the was more incorporation of emotion in the music. Experimentation looked like was the way of the future as more composers broke away from composing in what was being considered as the normal way. With this kind of experimentation, a transition to romanticism was eminent.
The aspect of experimentation is among the top most features that makes the Late Classical period so different than the early and mid-classical period. Most of the composers had started engaging their exploring self. There was more and more elements of breaking away from the norm in music that was at the time. The classical music was stretched even further making symphonies that were fairly huge. Even more and more aspects of emotion was incorporated with political affairs starting to find a place in the pieces.
It is worth noting that it was during this time that there were tremendous changes in musical pieces. These influences were also due to the economic changes and alterations that greatly affected the quality of both the music and musicians. The appetite for music at the time also has a lot to be attributed to the changes and characteristics of the music at the time. The largely continued appetite led musicians to want to do more hence the identified attributes. For a long time, the changes have been a guide to what we understand music as being what it is.
