The prices of petroleum have been on an increase lately, because of this fact, considering an alternative source of energy for vehicles would be significant. Also the use of petrol and diesel has led to the emission of poisonous gases into the ecosystem, causing serious health complications. Investing in an electric car that uses electricity as its source of power is economical given that the electricity is generated from a renewable source of energy. Worthy to note is that the energy sources that are used to operate the electric car are under the umbrella of the green energy concept, that helps keep the environment pollution free.
Furthermore, electric vehicles could do well in future, because the U.S. produces its electricity from natural gas, coal and nuclear. Therefore, charging the electric vehicle from a renewable source of energy such as wind, ensures that the emissions are minimal (Weiler and Sioshansi). When compared to petrol cars, the electric cars are environmentally friendly because they do not emit pollutants as they lack exhaust emissions. Also, the cars contain very few moving parts and its weight is evenly distributed from the front to the back; and below the car on its center of gravity. It, also, has a near instantaneous torque response and a big crumple safety zone at the front and finally full torque when it is not moving (Weiler & Shioshansi).
Electric cars are set in motion via an electric motor and are powered by rechargeable batteries. In order to recharge the batteries the car is to be plugged into a charging port. In addition, the car can run for about 100 to 150 miles before they run out of battery. Also, the cars are economical because they are easy to fuel and repair. In the construction of electric cars, the gas tank and the tailpipe are not included, and under the bonnet there is an electric motor complete with its controller (Hosie).
The electric motor is not subject to smog checks, because it does not use oil and is not exposed to emissions. The gas tank of the vehicle is the battery, and supplies the car with energy that enables movement. Moreover, when the car is in idle mode, electric currents are not processed, so energy is not consumed. In the vehicle there is a controller, which performs the functions of a regulator, by controlling the amount of power emitted from the batteries thus prevents the motor from burning (Hosie).
